LM1173 What Do Your Scars Say About You

LM, Episode 1173, 3/5/23 (Remaster Episode 117, 3/11/20), What Do Your Scars Say About You

The last play before the pandemic we got to see our daughter, Maggie Lou, in was titled Alabaster by Audrey Cefaly.  Maggie played a woman covered in scars after surviving a tornado that kills her family.  Kelly Mengelkoch played a photographer taking pictures of women with scars to tell their stories.

One line stuck with me, our scars tell a lot about us.  I have multiple scars on my right knee from two different incidents, one in my right eyebrow, one on the back of my head and one on top of my left shoulder and the stories of these would tell you I’m stupid.

I got the one on my shoulder my sophomore year in high school  I was boxed in on the last turn  in a race on the Chillothe, MO track.  Attempting to get into an outer lane, I get pushed into the fence on the inside of the first lane cutting my shoulder.

Our coach cleaned it and put athletic tape to stop the bleeding because I was the anchor of the mile relay.

When we got home he took me to the emergency room to get stitches in it.  As the nurse is removing the tape, she goes, “Who was the idiot who put athletic tape on this?”

The idiot was standing right there.  The idiot and I couldn’t stop laughing.

We all have physical and psychological scars and regardless of the stories about how we got them, they all say the same thing, we are survivors of life, an accomplishment in and of itself.

Have a great Sunday and always remember laughter matters.
