LM1027 Sister Ruth Pia

LM, Episode 1027, 10/4/22, Sister Ruth Pia

I once worked in a hospital with a doctor who treated everyone, including the nurses with disdain, yet proclaimed to anyone who would listen that he was the most pious of Christians.  The Director of Nurses once said of him, “Some people are so holy they are of no earthly value.”

Then there are those people of faith who spend their lives caring for others.  Recently I was the keynote speaker for the Leading Age, Indiana and a nun approached me afterwards.  She loved my program and said she believes fervently in the healing effects of humor.

She said one of the other nuns says she’s a pain in the ass, so she now calls herself Sister Ruth Pia because it sounds Italian.

She cares for dementia patients and one asked her if she was married.  She said, “Yes, I married my childhood sweetheart, God.”

The patient said, “How nice.  Do you have any children?”

Sister Ruth Pia confessed to me that these patients are her children.

There is someone who uses her faith to make the world a better place.
