LM1023 Andy’'s Wedding

LM, Episode 1023, 9/30/22, Andy’s Wedding

Tomorrow I will be attending our friend Andy’s wedding to his partner Andrew.  We met Andy when he and our daughter, Maggie, attended college together and we have always considered to be one of our children, but over the years he started editing my articles and he has become my friend.

He came to Cincinnati once to go to the Creation Museum in Kentucky.  I consider it a major accomplishment that I didn’t laugh so loudly at Andy and Maggie’s snide comments to get  kicked out.

A few years ago I was speaking in Baltimore on Andy’s birthday.  That evening I took the train to Washington, DC where he lives to take him to dinner.  It was the first, warm, spring day and every woman I saw was wearing something low cut.  I pointed this out to Andy and said, “I haven’t gotten anything done today because of this distraction.”

Andy replies, “Yes, it doesn’t bother me a bit.”

For his 30th birthday, Andy wanted his friends to roast him.  I happened to be speaking in Virginia that day and he asked me to stay over to be the emcee.  It ended up be Andy, a woman he and Maggie went to college with, me, and 50 gay men.  When Andy would email everyone about the event, he stressed it started at 8 pm, normal time, not gay time.  When I questioned him about this, he tells me gay men are notorously late to everything.

I was there at 7.30.  At 8 pm there was Andy, the woman, and me.  The roast finally started about 9 pm.

At one point, Andy, told the crowd that he suspected I am gay because, like on that night, I often wear running tights.  I responded I can prove I’m not gay because I was there on time.  It brought the house down.

Twyla and I wish Andy and Andrew much happiness.  I do know one certainty.  Andrew is in for a lifetime of laughs because Andy knows how much laughter matters.
