There is an urgency in these verses for the church to watch, and to be ready because we do not know on what day our Lord will come ( vs. 42). Then we see the parables, such as the 10 virgins, the three with talents, the householder and especially the two brothers that are in the field or the two sisters at the mill grinding (one is taken, and the other is left), these all indicate consequences if we are not watching and ready. We need to remember that Jesus, in general, is speaking of the gospel of the kingdom of heaven. The gospel of the kingdom of heaven is very much related to our enjoyment of the rapture. Both have to do with His coming, or as we’ve learned, His presence. To be a person who is ready for His coming we simply need to be such a one who is living now in his presence. This is how we watch and this is how we are ready. We are full of Christ in all of our living and this fullness becomes the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom of heaven. Jesus said “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; Nor will they say, Behold, here it is! or, There! For behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you. Luke 17:21-20) This kingdom is not something outside of us or an event on a prophetic calendar. The kingdom comes with the person of Christ being in our midst. Find Him and you have found the kingdom! In the manger, the kingdom is there; casting out demons, the kingdom is there; on the cross or in the grave, the kingdom is there; resurrection and ascension, the kingdom is there! And now where is He? He’s living in your spirit and the kingdom is there! The day of the rapture is unknown to us, but the Lord is looking for saints who while they are grinding, while they are farming, etc. are just full of Him rather than being full of this age.. He is looking for believers who are just filling up with him daily. This is what it means to preach the gospel of the kingdom in these last days. He’s looking for his presence in the church, and when he finds such a full expression, these overcoming Saints will meet him in the air in the clouds. Those left behind? The Lord is going to get them too, They will suffer loss but He’s going to gather them, and he is going to cause them to live by his life during some difficult days ahead. The Lord will get us all but may we have the revelation in these days to be full of him, living, according to this kingdom on this earth, not filled up with the cares of this age, that we might be ready on that day and not left behind.
