With the recent extremely low temperatures that gripped much of the country, it's only fitting that we discuss the ways you should be reading the health of the local whitetail herd. Without proper habitat in place, you may notice deer drastically changing patterns and adapting to these conditions. 

We dive deep into the ways you as a land manager should be working with the farm to prepare for harsh conditions. If you are finding deer consuming low preference food resource such as ornamental landscaping you should be alarmed. If you can't find deer using your property during these times, you should also be alarmed. These are some of the few signs that you should be aware of. Habitat management is intentional, not accidental! We need to be placing certain features on each property to offer the necessary habitat.
