~ Welcome to the Ladybugging STEM podcast! Hosted by Abby, a biomedical engineering undergraduate student at Vanderbilt University, the show interviews incredible women in STEM, solving problems in STEM. ~

In this episode, I interview not one, but TWO, awesome biomedical engineering faculty members at Vanderbilt University: Patricia Russ, PhD, and Amanda Lowery, PhD. In addition to teaching, Dr. Lowery leads teams to modify toys for children with disabilities, and Dr. Russ develops diagnostic devices for HIV and tuberculosis for low-resource settings. Dr. Russ and Dr. Lowery met when they both came to Vanderbilt and have been great friends ever since, and that dynamic makes this interview even more fun. In this episode, we talk about their paths to biomedical engineering, go into a bit of detail on the incredible projects they’re working on, and discuss the importance of community for women in STEM.
