In this special episode of La Liga Lowdown, hosted by Euan McTear (@emctear), we look back at the wildest presidents and owners in LaLiga history. We organised a vote for our listeners and followers to pick the five club bosses who you wanted us to talk about and this is how it turned out.

We have Román de Arquer (@Aeroslavee) talking about former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart, telling the stories of his role as an expert recruiter as a vice-president and of how it didn’t quite work out as president.

We have Dan Parry (@DanParry_) on Dmitry Pietrman, who owned stakes in Racing Santander and Alavés in the early 21st century and who wanted to be the manager of those teams himself, which logically didn’t end well.

We have Gregor Chappelle (@gregorchappelle) on Manuel Ruiz de Lopera, who had an eventful time as Real Betis president. From renaming the stadium to his own name to busting players’ parties to hiring a private detective to follow Joaquín around.

We have Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) on Sheikh Al-Thani and his role in Málaga’s brief spell at the top, and long downward spiral.

And we have Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG), who tells the story of former Atlético Madrid president Jesús Gil and the wild tales and confrontations he was involved in over the years at the Vicente Calderón.
