Although the SCIC has shelved a proposed highway through the Book Cliffs for now, Grand County officials want their thoughts on conserving land to be clear for the future. They’re currently at work on a Small Area Plan for the Book Cliffs region. Plus, a regional paleontologist says overall damage to Mill Canyon Dinosaur Tracksite was ‘minor’ but fractures could have formed when BLM-approved construction crews drove heavy equipment around the fossils. An assessment says filling vacant paleontology positions is imperative to protect resources.
