During an emergency meeting of the Grand County Council, members and staff debated how to slow the spread of coronavirus into and within the community. Before the county council members was a serious decision – do they listen to local health officials and place temporary restrictions on mass gatherings and events to slow COVID-19 and protect local healthcare resources? Or do they listen to the business community and reverse course, attempting to stave off further damages to the local economy? It was an emotionally charged meeting, which ultimately split the council on a motion to enact temporary restrictions.
