The Grand County Council has joined Moab City in unanimous opposition to proposed oil and gas leasing in the Sand Flats Recreation Area. The nomination of two parcels sitting on top of Moab’s sole source aquifer has drawn wide local opposition in recent weeks, notably from those typically in support of mineral extraction projects. Plus, the county council unanimously sent a letter of support to a Utah legislator to create a state park in the Dalton Wells and Willow Springs area, aiming to protect the landscape while maintaining current recreational opportunities. And finally, our partners at the Moab Sun News have a report on a lack of communication over UDOT’s Highway 191 widening project frustrating local business owners.
