On Friday evening, Utah Governor Gary Herbert issued a directive across the state – “stay safe and stay home.” Although this is not a shelter in place order, Utahans are now expected to stay home whenever possible. The directive includes specific instructions for all individuals, including those determined to be high-risk. Also – effective March 28th – both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks will be closed to all visitors until further notice. All vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians are prohibited from entering any park areas, including campgrounds, trails, backcountry, and roads. Any recreational use of the parks is in violation of this closure. The National Park Service says they are working with federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic.
