Some big news last week for public lands around Moab – the Bureau of Land Management backed off a plan that would have auctioned over 80,000 acres for oil and gas leasing in the greater Moab area. Local governments, conservation groups, tribal communities, and members of Congress asked the BLM to remove the parcels from the sale – and they did. So what ultimately led the agency to their decision? This is the second time in 2020 that the BLM responded to public outcry in this area. Well, recreation interests might be playing a large role. Today on the news, we speak with a BLM representative for more.
