Rufus Wainwright joins Kyle Meredith to talk about the 20th anniversary of Want, his double album (when parts one and two are combined) that found himself becoming more of his true self on record. The interview was recorded at the Hell or Highwater bar in Louisville, KY the day before Wainwright performed the songs with the Louisville Orchestra, so the two discuss what lends this particular album to an orchestral arrangement and why the album was always meant to be played that way, as well as a look back at that period in his career as an artist with three successful albums in a row. The multi-genre singer-songwriter also digs into the operas that he’s written, having been a fan of opera since his teen years, while he also considers why so many other artists continue to make the same songs over and over, all the while trying to figure out why his daughter likes Taylor Swift so much.
