NewJean’s ‘cookie’ raised a lot of eyebrows. It was a song presented by teenage girls-mostly under the age of 16-singing lyrics that were partly interpreted as being sexual in nature amongst English-speaking listeners. It kicked off a debate that isn’t entirely new for k-pop, namely, the prevalence of sexualized minors in k-pop. What's driving this trend? How precedented is this? And what should morally conscious fans do about content of this kind?
