Back to the zoo in 2011.

It is Spring Break and a great time to go to the zoo - except for the cold weather of course. I was bummed looking at the forecast but when the sun was bright and the mercury was in the middle 40's we made a quick go.
Usually we see the creature to the left after it has shed most of its winter coat; looking all mangy. But it was looking nice and warm on this day. Happy to have all the fur it could handle. I assume most of you can name this creature. But, can you tell me whether it is a Bactrian or Dromedary? The humps give it away (answer at the bottom of this post).
This guy we have been waiting to see. It is the world's only non-domesticated horse - Przewalski's Horse (pronounced Shuh-val-ski). It is from Mongolia and is new to the zoo.

The Aardvark to the left isn't new to the zoo but he was basically new to us. It is almost always curled up in a dark cave where no pictures will come out. But on this day he was moving around in full glory. He was pretty quick so it was still hard to get a good picture. He can eat 90,000 ants for dinner. I want to know how the zoo can keep up with that.
The zoo has 8 new inhabitants of Wolf Woods also. The older brothers were sent to retire in Missouri and 8 brothers and sisters moved in. The 3 brothers are separated right now but will join the sisters after they are out of estrus. Being younger than the retirees, the sisters were pretty frisky which is nice. We were told that there was even a change in the alpha female since they arrived. Keep an eye out for these ladies over the summer.
Thanks for stopping by. More Spring Break goodies later.
(Answer: Bactrian)
