The True Hippie Guidelines For Living, Vol. I

May 29, 2024 20:11 - 8 minutes - 12 MB

Inspired by the rules for living from the fake gangster of the YouTube channel Grim.Hustle, I thought I'd share some of my own rules. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy Grim.Hustle and agree with a lot of what he says. As I've always told my sons, any True Hippie can kick any OG butt any day of the week. I'm not a Deadhead, but I love this photo of them on the stoop of their apartment building in the Haight-Ashbury in 1966. I've always thought it hilarious that Pigpen is holding a rifle.

The Milk of Human Kindness

May 04, 2024 22:23 - 6 minutes - 9.36 MB

I witnessed a stranger's kindness to another stranger the other night in a Safeway parking lot. It was lovely to see.

Pop Down The Years (acoustic)

May 04, 2024 21:39 - 6 minutes - 8.3 MB

It's been over four years since I posted a version of this song. I listened to the album the other night for the first time in a year or more. Inasmuch that I don't like the sound most of my vocals—I paid a guy a lot of money to mix the album who did not know how to mix vocals (live and learn!)—the arrangements stand up. They are amazing, I don't mind saying. Available on iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, and Bandcamp, and everywhere!

The Genesis of the Accomplished Roué

May 04, 2024 07:03 - 6 minutes - 8.3 MB

Someone wrote and asked what a roué is. A French term, a roué is many things, mostly bad. But an accomplished roué? That's another story.

Candida Royalle and the Sexual Revolution ~ A History From Below

May 01, 2024 04:03 - 5 minutes - 6.04 MB

I'm halfway through this thoughtful and detailed biography of Candida Royalle, aka Candice Vadala, writer, singer, porn star, porn director. A renaissance woman gone far to soon.

15 Best Psychedelic Songs According To SingersRoom

March 23, 2024 22:56 - 5 minutes - 5.96 MB

Definitely a number of essential songs on this list, but they missed a number of mind-bending classic psychedelic songs, just off the top of my head. Nonetheless, fun to think about.

Brief Thoughts Fifty Years Out From David Bowie's Diamond Dogs

March 23, 2024 21:34 - 5 minutes - 5.96 MB

Included: another old song snippet, very dark; thoughts on Gentlemanly Art of Spanking manuscript rejection; a snippet of lyrics from "Sweet Thing" on David Bowie's Diamond Dogs album.

Love Lies Bleeding—Great If You Like Noir

March 23, 2024 21:20 - 5 minutes - 5.84 MB

I saw Love Lies Bleeding the other night. Really well done, but a little too noir for me.

New song, very early mix ... "I'm Falling Down"

March 23, 2024 04:58 - 10 minutes - 11.6 MB

Working on my next, as yet unnamed, album. I'm getting up to speed on all the new production techologies, thought I would start with a relatively simple song. I still don't have lyrics for the two verses. They will arrive in their own time, as they always do. So far I'm very happy with the mix, still tons and tons to do, but it's okay as a glorified sketch. I hope you like it!

My Guidelines For Eternal Youth

March 16, 2024 22:02 - 5 minutes - 5.88 MB

It's very simple.

Here's a song for you: "Baby Knows." I mean, doesn't she?

March 10, 2024 07:47 - 4 minutes - 5.5 MB

It's rockstar Saturday night. I'm hanging out with my cat Monkey Blue. He's asleep on the bed. I might join him soon.  I thought I would play a song that will be on my next album, after I create an arrangement for it and record it properly. It's called "Baby Knows." Happy to see that my weekly newsletter from my website is working again. Please go to knoxbronson.com and subscribe!

I Have Completed The Gentlemanly Art of Spanking Manuscript

March 08, 2024 02:09 - 5 minutes - 6.83 MB

So when we last encountered ort narrator, he had, having fled the loving bosom of his newly-redecorated Oakland flat under threat of death from the thugs up the street, landed, at last, in Los Angeles and had begun to explore this alien culture while trying to sell HoneyBun Spanking Kits. HoneyBun was the logical outcome of the hugely successful article, "The Gentlemanly Art of Spanking" on Salon.com. Los Angeles (and Las Vegas) was a culture and place he had been taught, as a fourth genera...

Apple’s Weird Billboards for the iPhone 15

February 21, 2024 22:57 - 8 minutes - 7.45 MB

Another example of why Apple, invariably, misses the without Steve Jobs there. In this case, the ad campaign for the iPhone 15 camera and it’s portraiture capabilities. Putting pictures of children on billboards that no parent would ever share with any other human being.

The Taste of Things Movie Review

February 17, 2024 22:54 - 5 minutes - 6.15 MB

The story of Eugenie, an esteemed cook, and Dodin, the fine gourmet who she has been working for over the last 20 years, a wonderful celebration of food, friends, romance. Starring Juliette Binoche.

Birney Jarvis, Police Reporter, Hells Angel, Legend

February 17, 2024 05:57 - 9 minutes - 8.24 MB

I knew Bernie back in the 70s and 80s. We drank in the same newspaper bar south of market in San Francisco. He was a legend. They don’t make them like Bernie anymore. Here’s a little little video about him and the TV show that was based on his real life story. https://youtu.be/wp8kBKAzUYQ?si=woNZ-rnCQjPEyo2V

February 09, 2024 01:11 - 5 minutes - 5.45 MB

It was six Ty years ago today Sergeant Pepper taught the band to play, wait, no …. it was the day “I want to hold your hand” hit number one on the billboard chart in the United States. And Beatlemania took over the world.

Jason Statham Is Back ~ The Beekeeper

February 01, 2024 18:25 - 6 minutes - 6.21 MB

I was so happy to see Jason Statham back in a big budget action movie. The beekeeper is right out of the John Wick mold, but with a better story, at least a better story than the third and fourth installments of the John Wick series. Jeremy Irons plays the inimitable, aristocratic monster as only he can. Great cinematography great editing, and clearly room for a second installment.

Remembering Judy Davis, Voice Coach to the Stars

The Frogs of Knickerbocker

January 27, 2024 01:54 - 3 minutes - 3.35 MB

A quick visit to Knickerbocker, and happy to discover that the frogs are back full force. I didn’t expect them because the pond is a little low still. There’s clearly enough for the frogs and their eggs and the pollywogs though.

1971—The Year That Music Changed Everything on Apple TV

January 24, 2024 20:35 - 6 minutes - 7.1 MB

"1971—The Year That Music Changed Everything on Apple TV" is an amazing eight-part documentary series on Apple TV, chronicling the end, or the collapse, if you will, of the Sixties and the birth of the Seventies. Culture, politics, and the music of Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Sly Stone, The Rolliing Stones, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Alice Cooper, Tina Turner, the list goes on. Beautifully written and edited. Lots of footage I've never see befor...

Trump’s Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: A Modest Alternative Proposal

December 29, 2023 07:45 - 5 minutes - 5.29 MB

There is a movement afoot to remove Trump's star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It occurred to me that it could be used to fund much needed social services. Also: Trump sells $2.4M in cryptocurrency, the act of a "billionaire" who is dead broke and has no liquidity. #trump #urinal #hollywood #dumpingcrypto

Merry Christmas Charles Bukowski

December 26, 2023 21:22 - 6 minutes - 6.06 MB

Trying to get to a church service on Christmas Eve, I was thwarted like Bukowski in his SRO hotel room, broke and doomed.

It suddenly occurred to me I've been singing it in the wrong key (Bb minor) all this time. Thought I'd move it up a half-step. Yes, I've been doing it wrong!
