SPOILER WARNING!  Spoilers for The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies from 43:30 to 49:50.

Despite technical problems, shortstaffing, freelance, family and coursework, we’re back!

In this episode, Karen and Maggie fill in each other about their holidays and any knitty things they received and knitting time (or lack thereof) they had.  Maggie spent her holidays in the Bahamas and worked on the Zipper socks and Swirly mittens, but didn’t get them finished between all the family things as well as her high school reunion.  She’s also been busy putting together a swap package for the Dresden swap on the Odd Duck Swaps group on Ravelry, so there’s a fair bit she can’t discuss just yet, just in case.

Karen got a pile of knitting books, including The Knowledgeable Knitter and the most recent Unofficial Downton Abbey Knits and Jane Austen Knits issues.  She also FINISHED THE THERE AND BACK AGAIN SCARF in time for the Hobbit movie marathon at her local theatre two days before the official release date of The Battle of Five Armies.  She’s also working on a Seeekrit Bebe Project and while she can’t talk about the pattern, she can discuss the yarn she’s using.  She also finished her Rhinebeck sweater aka the Saddleback Cardigan and just needs to order buttons for it and finished most of a pair of movie socks thanks to the marathon and seeing Five Armies twice more during that one week.  Of course as she’s finished a couple things she’s also started the Tauriel socks as well as picking up the Smocks of  Love socks that she abandoned for bigger projects, like, 6 months ago, as well as starting a scarf based on the TGV (Tricoter Grand Vitesse) scarf pattern.  She, uh, might also have bought some yarn, including Wollmeise.

Also, there is discussion of New Year’s Resolutions/goals, so stay tuned until the end of the year to see what actually comes of those and how fast plans are broken.

In Geek Squee, we saw the Hobbit, big surprise, so naturally there’s discussion of that.  We also found out that Ming Na Wen (aka Melinda May from Agents of SHIELD, aka Maggie’s personal hero)  IS A KNITTER, OMG SO AWESOME; have seen the first two episodes of Agent Carter, which, LOVE; DC comics has introduced a new Power Girl with all kinds of STEM talents and sans boob window; Karen has been super-duped excited about the new SHIELD comic starring some of the characters from Agents of SHIELD; and finally, there’s going to be a Babybatch!

In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, Think Geek continues ruining our credit cards by introducing a Captain America 3-piece towel set, Neil Gaiman is releasing  his new book, “Trigger Warning”, and Karen found some SUPER ADORABLE magnetic bookmarks from the Etsy shop CraftedVan, a lot of which feature things from our favourite tv shows and movies.
