This week we’re creeping ever closer to the finish line on our Hobbitalong projects, and have either picked up other projects to keep us sane or are starting to think about what we’re going to do when we’re done our deadlines.  Karen also headed out on a yarn excursion this weekend and came back with, er… souvenirs.

We’re also breaking with format to bring you an episode chock-a-block full of geeky gift ideas!  There are suggestions for a homemade chemistry set, collector items (including possibly one of the oddest Avenger tie-ins we’ve seen, as well as one collectible Karen is squealing over/lusting after), unique jewellery for the Harry Potter fans, adorable (and sometimes creepy) terrariums, some seriously twisted cross stitch, nerdy nurseries, apparel for the female geek and some great fannish art prints and cartoons.  There’s also a knitting pattern for some last-minute crafting as well as a pair of socks that need to be seen to be believed.

After our outro, we also have a promo for a book written by one of our listeners!  ”Of Seraphim and Cherubim: An Alternative Tale of the Phantom of the Opera” by S. Compton-Myers is being e-pubbed through Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s Nook and involves a knitting, fantasy-writing heroine, as well as some seriously hot scenes.  You can see more information about the book and updates about the upcoming release at the book’s blog.

Time is running out for The Hobbit: A Long-Expected Knitalong!  There’s no required pattern or yarn, just the goal of completing a project of your choice before The Hobbit opens in theatres on December 14th (or when it opens in your country).  Feel free to post progress and pictures here on the blog, or chat about your projects in the thread over on the Ravelry group!

Want to share your thoughts on the movies/tv/science geekery we’ve discussed, or found something geeky to share? Comment here at the blog, email us at [email protected] or participate in the thread on our Ravelry group!  Want to know when new episodes go live or see the occasional bit of news?  Check out our Twitter feed (@knit1geek2)!  And as always, we have merch in our Zazzle.com and Zazzle.ca stores.
