We had technical difficulties and we lost a good part of Adventures in Knitting.  However it’s a good thing the episode was delayed and I needed to record an intro, as there’s something actually important to talk about first, namely helping the people that have been displaced and have had homes and businesses destroyed in the wildfires around Fort McMurray, Alberta.  If you want to help, check out the charities listed at www.charityintelligence.ca, as well as the Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society.   The fire is still burning, and communities in the area are still in danger, so help is definitely still needed.

As for what remains of Adventures in Knitting, Karen ripped out her Mystic Star shawl and started over in a larger needle size, as well as did a lot of math to figure out whether she’s likely to run out of yarn.  She’s also working on the Unicurves socks by Jeannie Cartmel and is very close to getting a rigid heddle loom!  She also had some adventures in dyeing, though she’ll probably wait for warmer weather so she can try solar dyeing.

In Geek Squee, we got set photos from Doctor Strange (which has led to a hilarious photoshop meme) and Benedict happened to stop in a local comic shop in NYC in costume.  In other Cumberbatchy news, Sherlock Season 4 is filming, this time with a female director, and there are some set photos that have leaked as well.  As for movies, we got the trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One , with another lead female character (yaaaaaaaaaaaaas) and we saw a super adorable family cosplay at C2E2: Finn, Rey and Baby-8!  WE also found a news story about a 9-year-old reporter that we want to be when we grow up.

In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, we’re both crushing on colourwork-yoke fingering weight sweaters: Maggie on Akebia by Kate Gilbert, Karen on Cockatoo Brae by Kate Davies.  We’re both nuts, in case you hadn’t figured that out from every other episode.  Also, Blue Moon Fiber Arts has two new yarn bases including a sparkly one because we REALLY NEEDED more reasons to buy yarn. Not.

The CanConKAL/CAL is underway, but don’t despair, you can join in any time (and there’s another group doing one in the summer)!  As the Canadian dollar is so terrible right now (but really good for those in the US or Europe!) you can use Canadian milled/sourced/dyed yarn and/or a pattern by a Canadian designer (which includes people that were born in Canada and moved elsewhere, as well as those born elsewhere and who now live in Canada–you’re Canadian to us. :D).  We’re planning to finish projects by Canada Day, July 1st.  Stay tuned for the thread in the Ravelry group for a list of designers and yarn providers!

Want to share your thoughts on the movies/tv/science geekery we’ve discussed, or found something geeky to share? Comment here at the blog, email us at [email protected] or participate in the thread on our Ravelry group!  Want to know when new episodes go live or see the occasional bit of news?  Check out our Twitter feed (@knit1geek2)!  And as always, we have merch in our Zazzle.com and Zazzle.ca stores.
