#19. Former Federal Prosecutor Nathan Williams

Nathan S. Williams is the former Criminal Chief at the U..S. Attorney's Office in South Carolina. He was a federal prosecutor for 13 years and a state prosecutor for 10 years before that. As a federal prosecutor, Nathan prosecuted two federal death penalty cases. United States v. Dylann Roof was the first time the death penalty had been imposed for a federal hate crime. Roof executed nine parishioners at Mother Emanuel AME church in Charleston, SC, and was sentenced to death. At trial, Nathan handled over 30 witnesses and presented opening and closing arguments for the government. The other death penalty case involved the murder of two CresCom bank employees during a daytime bank robbery in Conway, SC, for which Brandon Council was sentenced to death. Nathan handled over 20 witnesses and presented opening and closing arguments. Nathan also prosecuted complex financial crimes and violent crimes at the state and federal level. As the Criminal Chief of the United States Attorney's Office in South Carolina he supervised all federal criminal cases in the State, and in 2018 was awarded the Department of Justice's second highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award.

Throughout his time as a prosecutor, Nathan was consistently involved with the media and spoke about high-profile cases. Nathan appeared twice on Dateline, on 48 hours, and has been quoted and interviewed extensively in the local Charleston, SC, media as well as across the state of South Carolina. He has also presented and lectured on the topic of Hate Crimes, Death Penalty Prosecutions, and Domestic Terrorism dozens of times to community groups, FBI agents, prosecutors, lawyers, and federal Anti-Terrorism Task Forces.
