Podcast 78 – Meghan & Harry are supporting the equitable sharing of Covid-19 vaccines to the World’s poorest countries.

Big news on the Meghan and Harry front with the announcement that they are the Campaign Chairs of Global Citizen’s VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World.  Meghan and Harry are helping a worldwide effort to ensure the equitable distribution of Covid-19 vaccines and treatments to everyone, everywhere.

During the May 8th concert,  Harry and Meghan will be  among many who will be delivering messages for vaccine equity.  Other people slated to give a similar message are US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden, US Vice President Kamala Harris, President Macron of France and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada.  A host of actors and comedians will also make guest appearances.  Selena Gomez with hosting the music side  of the event.

According to a BBC news article, more than one billion doses of coronavirus vaccines have now been administered worldwide. But there are vast differences in the pace of progress in different parts of the world, with some countries having delivered doses to a large proportion of their population and others still waiting for their first shipments to arrive.

Meghan and Harry write on their website:

“Over the past year, our world has experienced pain, loss, and struggle—together. Now we need to recover and heal—together. We can’t leave anybody behind,” 

They add:

“We will all benefit, we will all be safer, when everyone, everywhere has equal access to the vaccine. We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution, and in that, restore faith in our common humanity. This mission couldn’t be more critical or important.”

The VAX LIVE concert is a fund-raising effort, seeking to raise what they call “dollars for doses” to help vaccinate more than 27 million frontline health workers, and to try and get governments, corporations and NGO foundations to pledge a total of $19 billion to get 1.8 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses plus tests and treatments to the world’s poorest countries by the end of 2021.
