Kate checked in with a mom and daughter who have received services from the UK charity Little Village. The charity is celebrating its 5th Anniversary. The London based charity describes itself as being like a food bank, but for clothes, toys and equipment for babies and children up to the age of five.

The charity accepts good quality donations and passes them on to other families who need support. They describe the donations that they give as gifts, given with love, from one family to another. Families are referred to Little Village via a network of professionals from more than 500 organisations, such as midwives, social workers, and children’s centres.

Their vision is that no child living in UK’s capital city should go without the essential things they need to thrive. In such a wealthy city, they feel that it is unjust that families continues to struggle.

In her video visit today, Kate met with mom Vicky and her 3 ½ year old daughter Isla. Vicky described how when she was pregnant as a single mom, she was worried about having the right things for her baby. Her midwife referred her to Little Village, an organization she said she have never heard of at that time. Vicky described feeling  nervous the first time she went, worried about being judged badly for being a single mom and worried what people would think of her. She said that when she walked in she immediately felt welcomed.

During the zoom call Little Isla could be heard playing in the background. Kate was impressed with how quiet she was.  Isla, dressed appropriately in her own little princess outfit, got to say hello to a real princess.
