The purpose of education, public schooling, is to develop an educated citizenry. Schools need to teach the truths that unite the people of a nation. Consider America's motto, e pluribus unum, out of many we are one. By stressing differences about race and gender and ideology, American schools are accomplishing the opposite of good education. We are creating a future where Americans doubt the national identity and feel alienated and isolated. We can fix this.
