Reports released this month reveal ExxonMobil’s oil platforms off of Santa Barbara’s coast were found to be out of compliance with federal regulations at the time of the Refugio Oil Spill back in 2015. Now, four years later, Exxon is seeking to ramp up production while the federal safety agency responsible for oversight announces plans to dramatically lowers its standards.
