Home Brewing Notes:
Greg ended up steeping at a 1:8 ratio, roughly (12oz coffee:100oz water)
Steeped in a large, one-gallon glass jar
End product was slightly bitter – this was likely due to two factors:
steep time too long
inconsistent grind from my grinder
Pros of making your own cold brew:
Unlimited potential with notes, steep time, etc. You get to exercise control
Bulk production. A $16 bag of coffee will last you a week or more
Impress your friends?
Cons of making your own cold brew:
If you mess it up, you’ve tricked off an entire bag of coffee
Container size/storage
Work. No instant gratification. It takes a while. Anywhere from 12-24 hours.
Straining. This can be a big pain if you don’t have something like a fine cheesecloth bag for easy removal of coffee grounds/liquid straining.
We Sampled Cold Brew Coffee 3 Ways Today:
Straight up
With soda water
With simple syrup and cream
