This update is brought to you by IndyWrestling.us.
Results from Friday’s SmackDown and New Japan Strong are straight ahead in this update but first…
Some sad news to pass along.
Pro wrestling legend Butch Reed has died. Charismatic and powerful, “Hacksaw” got his start during the late 1970’s. He rose to prominence in promotions across the southeast - most notably in the Mid-South territory, where he memorably served as both friend and foe to Junkyard Dog.
Reed had a brief stint with the World Wrestling Federation in the late 80’s. Rechristened “The Natural”, he made his WWF debut at WrestleMania 3...with a win over Koko B. Ware. Reed left the WWF shortly after losing to Randy Savage in the first round of the championship tournament at WrestleMania IV.
Reed moved on to the NWA and WCW - where he formed the tag team Doom with Ron Simmons...and won the WCW tag titles. Reed and Simmons would eventually split and feud before Reed left WCW in 1992. That was his last run with a major promotion.
Reed passed away Friday due to heart complications.
Butch Reed was 66.
No answers from the Rumble winners Friday on who they’ll challenge at WrestleMania.
The show ended with Universal Champ Roman Reigns demanding an answer from Edge before Kevin Owens snuck in to hit Reigns with a Stunner.
Bianca Belair faced off with SmackDown women’s champ Sasha Banks and Carmella - but again, no answer on her Mania challenge.
As far as matches...Big E retained his Intercontinental Championship - he beat Apollo Crews with the Big Ending to win a three-way that also involved Sami Zayn.
Cesaro beat Daniel Bryan AGAIN. This time he submitted him with the Sharpshooter.
Rey Mysterio’s interference helped his son Dominik beat King Corbin.
(STINGER: New Japan)
Rey Horus beat TJP in the main event of last night’s New Japan Strong,
(STINGER: AEW)
Circling back to some upcoming matches announced this week. Next Wednesday’s Dynamite will have Darby Allin defending the TNT Championship against Joey Janela...Chris Jericho & MJF vs. The Acclaimed...and Cody Rhodes & Lee Johnson vs. PRETTY Peter Avalon & Cezar Bononi.
