'chalk'
was green chalk we used
to draw hearts overlapping
across the gaps of the front walk
the moss blended so nicely
despite the weeds that grew
faster than our fingers could pluck
so we plucked at everything
cursing the lack of red chalk
and clean pavement to redraw us.
