Gary Simonds is a brain surgeon who has cared for thousands of critically ill patients. He started his career in the Army at Walter Reed and was the Chief of Neurosurgery at a University Hospital for many years. He now teaches several subjects to undergraduates and medical students at Virginia Tech. He has written three non-fiction books on burnout and wellness and recently published a medical/psychological thriller with a paranormal twist, Death's Pale Flag. He has also begun writing blog posts for Psychology Today Online. In addition to teaching and writing, he enjoys hiking in the mountains of North Carolina, walking his border collie, Hamish, and playing the guitar and banjo. He intends to teach himself the bagpipes next.
