The great grappling art moved strategically through Brazil towards North America, propelled by ambition and a drive to be successful. The schools were just accessible enough to permit a rush of middleclass students in South America and a select few Hollywood celebrities in California. There was little other motion other than raise attention through combative efficiency in challenge fights, reinforcing the art’s dictum; a message that would be shouted far and wide across martial arts subculture...
