Helen starts admiring Shinobu Ohtaka’s run on all the major manga magazines, while Justin keeps wondering just what’s up with Kodansha’s digital marketing strategy, since they never did announce it formally.

19:14: Sentai Filmworks licensed After the Rain, so at some point we’ll see it on HIDIVE, and thus, yet another Amazon Prime title is now on another service.

22:32: Funimation continues raiding the Aniplex catalog, as they now have some Monogatari anime series on their service.

24:09: And Crunchyroll ended up adding the ACCA-13 OVA to their service.

Main Topic: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

24:52: Two weeks ago a number of events were being postponed or cancelled in the anime world (Like A3, Infinite Dendrogram to name a few) due to COVID-19, but due to the number of news in Episode 94 that was pushed back. Though since then, a lot ended up happening, from major events (like ECCC & SXSW) being postponed or cancelled. Justin and Helen talk about the entire situation based on the information they knew when they recorded this episode this past Sunday, and the potential effects this will have on the world (and specifically anime/manga)

Of course, it has completely escalated since then, so bear that in mind during this topic.

Weird News

37:57: Haru Futaba, creator of The Girls School manga, ended up discussing the not-so-pleasant behind the scenes of working with Shueisha:

Claims editor’s mismanagement (From losing manuscripts, being late to meetings or cancelling them at the last minute regularly) was what caused the manga to be cancelled (only two volumes)When Futaba demanded to speak to the editor-in-chief, the editor refused to organize a meeting and instead offered Futaba 300,000 yen ($2,848.60) to stay silent. Futaba spoke to the editor-in-chief anyway and spent the rest of the serialization working without an editor. They wrote that the experience left them very demoralized, even after the editor-in-chief came to apologize to them personally. Haru’s currently in communication with Shueisha through a lawyer, but Shueisha’s side refuses to acknowledge Futaba’s version of events, and so the artist has decided to post about it publicly. According to them, the editor they worked with is still employed at ShueishaConcluded their thread by stating that they will report back when they next hear from Shueisha 

Justin and Helen can only wonder how this is gonna go…

41:37: Hideo Kojima was encouraged by his staff to check out the Made in Abyss anime, and after he thought it was ok, he was “encouraged” to read the manga.

43:47: Finally, just when everything seemed down for Interspecies Reviewers…they finally got some news! Two stations in Japan ended up picking it up. Justin and Helen obviously have to discuss this breaking news in the weird news section.
