Show Notes

0:00: Helen’s still a bit tired (and unfortunately had a migraine), but after getting three days off from work, Justin is slightly recharged and talks about what he did with his time — namely, read a lot of manga (like Bakarina) and watch some fall anime.

News

9:09: VIZ and Crunchyroll we know has a partnership via Europe; now it appears to extend to the US branch, as now VIZ’s anime titles are now on Crunchyroll.

12:38: MAL’s starting a free manga service! The two hosts discuss MAL jumping into an area where now all of a sudden there’s a ton of services like this!
(Podcast note: Justin meant to say digital when talking about purchasing titles, not print)

14:39: Hey, remember Digital Manga? Oh we heard from them all right. We definitely heard them Kickstarting their way into trouble.

18:31: ANiUTa’s music service lasted all of a year, as it’ll end March 31. Justin and Helen discuss this service ending so fast.

21:00: One long running Akita Shoten magazine, Princess Gold, is ending after 40 years.

22:05: Finally, you all already know what happened to Tear Studio, and a few weeks ago, they were planning for bankruptcy.

Licensing News

25:24: Tokyo Godfathers is coming back! From a 4K restoration to a new English dub and sub, this is very good news to end the year.

29:14: Manga Planet added some more manga to their catalog, though Helen keeps wondering how much more H.P. Lovecraft manga is out there for anyone to get.

30:21: Media Do International is localizing the Giant Insect manga that Crunchyroll is co-producing the anime of!

32:09: Cross Infinite World has licensed a vampire witch light novel! Helen wonders if they’re publishing too much romance though.

34:09: Discotek Media licensed a couple new titles and announced release dates for titles for 2020. Helen is very much looking forward to Symphogear’s release.

Fall Anime 2019 Season Final Thoughts

35:09: Justin and Helen talk about the Fall anime titles that aired this season. Both start with Ascendance of a Bookworm and Stars Align, which the two watched…and had varying opinions of. Mostly positive opinions, except for one aspect of Stars Align which couldn’t be helped due to production committees. Then each cover what they watched individually, from Chihayafuru 3 to Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun!

Weird News of 2019
