A story about fearing yourself and the animal within, this movie is a masterwork of symbolism and is fascinating both in front of and behind the camera. RKO gave Val Lewton this silly title and he and the filmmakers gave us a whole load of tension and perfect subtlety; a great opposite to the Universal horror movies of the time!!
