“Amy” is an American woman who traveled to Damascus in college to study abroad. She fell in love with a Syrian man, and she fell in love with Syria. After graduating, she moved to Damascus to start her life with her new husband. She was there only a month before the civil war broke out. She’s lived in Syria for the past seven years and sat down to discuss life in pre-war Syria. Living through a civil war. And how the reality in Syria clashes with the narratives portrayed in western mainstream media.

To protect her husband and family still living in Syria, "Amy" asked that we use a pseudonym, and she wore a hijab to conceal her identity.
