Luke chapter 3 opens with John the Baptist coming on the scene preaching about ‘the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins’ and speaking of the coming Messiah. Herod puts him in jail, Jesus is baptised and the chapter concludes with the genealogy of Jesus going back to Adam, the son of God.

Jesus is led into the wilderness in chapter 4 where He is tempted by the devil. Successfully resisting the temptation, He returns in the power of the Spirit and begins His ministry.
