In the twenty-fifth year of their captivity, Ezekiel is taken in a vision by the Lord back to the land of Israel where he encounters a man standing in the gate of the city. This man has the ‘appearance of brass’ and holds a measuring rod in his hand. The man takes Ezekiel through various parts of the city measuring as he goes along.

In chapters 41 and 42, the vision continues as the man takes Ezekiel through the various parts of the temple, measuring as he goes along and, in some parts, explaining the purpose of the various rooms that he is measuring and showing to Ezekiel.
