Day 147 - 2 Chronicles 13 to 16

Bible summary

In chapter 13, Abijah and Jeroboam the kings of Judah and Israel are at war. Israel’s army ambushes the army of Judah and the people of Judah cry out to God for help. God delivers them and they prevail against Israel.

Abijah dies and in chapter 14 his son Asa reigns as king of Judah. He follows the ways of God, and the nation prospers and experiences rest from their enemies. During this time of peace, Asa fortifies the cities of Judah. Then the Ethiopian Zerah comes against them, Asa cries out to God for help, and God saves them.

In chapter 15, Asa is warned that if he forsakes God, God will forsake him. In response, he puts away the idols, gathers the people together and they enter into covenant with God, bringing an offering to Him.

In chapter 16, king Baasha of Israel takes over the town Ramah so that people couldn’t pass through to get to Judah. Asa sends to Syria for help instead of turning to God like he’d done in the past. The prophet Hanani warns him that he will now have wars as a result. Asa is angry and throws the prophet in prison. Asa later becomes sick, but he refuses to seek the Lord, looking instead to the doctors and he dies in the 41st year of his reign.
