Samuel 15
Saul was anointed as king of Israel .
However Saul disobeyed God when he didn't utterly destroy the Amalekites as God commanded .
Samuel told Saul that he has been rejected by God as king of Israel.
Hence Samuel said ' obedience is better than sacrifice ' ...
Samuel 16
Samuel anointed David as instructed by God .
Meanwhile Saul was troubled by an evil spirit, therefore David was called upon since the spirit goes away at the sound of the harp which David was skilled at playing.
Saul eventually took a deep liking to David.
