Bible summary

In chapter 15 - Abijam king of Judah does evil in God’s sight. His son Asa reigns as king after his death. Asa’s heart is right with God, and he makes major reforms in the land. However, he forms an alliance with Ben-hadad against Baasha king of Israel and he pays him with gold and silver from the temple and the king’s palace. After Asa’s death, his son Jehoshaphath is next in line.

Over in Israel, Jeroboam’s son Nadab becomes king, and he also does evil in God’s sight. He is assassinated by Baasha and everyone who is left in Jeroboam’s family is also killed in fulfilment of the word of the Lord. Baasha now becomes king, but he too does evil in the sight of God, and he continues in the ways of Jeroboam.

In chapter 16 – God’s word is released against Baasha, that he will be removed just like Jeroboam. And he too is later assassinated by Jehu and his son Elah reigns in his stead. While Elah is out getting drunk, he is assassinated by one of the men in his army, Zimri. But Zimri only reigns for seven days because when the people hear that he had killed the king, they appoint Omri as king instead. In the process Zimri kills himself by burning down the house that he is in.

And so Omri is now the king of Israel, but he too was evil and did even worse than all the other kings that had come before him. After his death, his son Ahab reigns, but sadly Ahab is even worse than Omri and he does even more to provoke God than everyone else before him. The chapter ends with the rebuilding of Jericho at the cost of Hiel’s two sons in fulfilment of the words spoken by Joshua in Joshua 6:26.
