The Northern Ireland conflict between 1969-1998 is euphemistically called The Troubles. However, this belies its importance as the longest continuous-deployment of security forces in British military history and a casualty rate of 3,532 deaths and approximately 50,000 injured.

The Troubles is often mistaken for a religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants, however, at the heart of The Troubles is a violent political debate.

Intelligence Fusion's Regional Analyst, Scott MacDonald, give us a brief history lesson surrounding the conflict in Northern Ireland, an insightful timeline of activity and providing recent examples of IED bombings, extrajudicial beatings as punishment and the continuation of threats and intimidation from paramilitary groups.

Our 10-minute podcast concludes with Scott providing his interpretation of the conflict in 2020 and his assessment for the future.
