Linux Foundation: Open Source & Standards Harmonization in Telecom - Intel® Chip Chat Episode 545

Marc Cohn, Vice President of Network Strategy at The Linux Foundation, joins Chip Chat to discuss a new call to action for broader collaboration among the Open Source community and telecommunication standards bodies.

Open source initiatives are moving up the stack, across the stack and across different industry segments. As these open source components rapidly matured, The Linux Foundation created the Open Platform for NFV as an end-to-end orchestration platform for vendors and operators to test and validate open source integrations between specific scenarios. This higher level initiative sought to strike a balance with other open source projects and provide development and operational environments for network operators to test new concepts. That’s the basis for orchestration to function across all working groups within The Linux Foundation, the Open Source community and broader SDN, NFV and telecommunication ecosystem.

Cohn explains the need to rethink the entire technology adoption lifecycle in the context of Agile development. The industry needs to help operators and end-users that are planning deployment of new-generation architectures and ensure that individual projects are considered as part of a broader ecosystem or architecture.
