A Sacramento-raised writer became the first Puerto Rican food columnist in the United States, earning a James Beard Award for her debut book Diasporican: A Puerto Rican Cookbook which is a visual record of recipes - including her family's - with the goal of preserving the diaspora. Illyanna Maisonet joins us about her journey of discovering how food connects us to family, history, conflict, and migration - ahead of her event at the Sacramento Public Library.
