Julian appears as the guest on Episode 16 of the Hidden Athlete Podcast

https://www.spreaker.com/user/thehiddenathletepodcast/julian-spence-final?autoplay=true

This week’s guest is the prolific Trevor Vincent, 1962 Commonwealth Games Steeplechase Gold Medallist, competitor at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and Australian National Champion for the 1500m and 5000m.

Trevor talks with Brady about his origins in the sport and following the sub-4 minute mile exploits of John Landy, Roger Bannister & László Tábori, training with Glenhuntly at Ferny Creek, racing in fun runs of yesteryear and how Ron Clarke influenced his pursuit of the steeplechase.

This then progresses to running a 4 minute mile, the Perth Commonwealth Games and 1964 Tokyo Olympics, as well as how he almost ended up running an Olympic Marathon. There’s reflection on the progression of athletics from when he competed to now, and thoughts on the current state of Australian Marathon runners before closing with what he’s doing now, cataloguing athletics memorabilia and continuing his involvement in athletics as an historian.
