Vulnerability is often cited as a key factor in deeper connections and open communication. Yet, after a year of working virtually, it can feel like real communication and connections being lost, and in addition to that, the concept of vulnerability has changed and left us feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Hilary Blair, an expert in the area of communication, joins me to talk about the downsides of vulnerability, and what we can do to adapt.

Hilary Blair is the CEO, Founder, and Lead Coach at ARTiculate Real and Clear, an arts-based communications firm that helps professionals fine-tune their communication. Hilary is a former actor, and is obsessed with communication and human connection, particularly in terms of executive presence, from one-to-one and team communication, to facilitation and storytelling. She focuses on helping people show up and be present, be seen, and be heard, using the techniques of the performing arts.

How does feeling like we’re losing real communication and connection play out in the workplace? Hilary sheds light on some of the pressures and challenges of vulnerability and how we navigate that in the workplace, as well as how we can reframe vulnerability as availability to maintain clear boundaries. She also has some great insights around how we as leaders can drive the transition to availability, addressing the elephants in the room, and balancing vulnerability, availability, and transparency in this virtual world.
