THE CONVO

Hola! Today my Papi, Mark Overmyer-Velázquez, and I talk (a.k.a I interview him) about his identity as a border-crosser, educator, and author based in an inner-ring suburb outside Hartford, CT. Mark navigates the world through curiosity, daily New York Times skimming, music, and lots of chocolate & peanut butter—the crunchy kind, of course. University Campus Director of the University of Connecticut’s new campus in downtown Hartford, Mark continuously learns the complexities of urban education and what his role in it can and should look like. Prior to this role, Mark worked as a professor of Latin American and Latinx history, with a concentration in the history of the Mexico/US border and the Mexican diaspora. Mark is recognized for his commitment to social justice and investment in his community. Please note that this is the first time he's ever podcast-ed so please bear with him and his professorial voice!
