Key Points

Bad Dependent Thinking means that you don’t question the beliefs that shape your actions.  (i.e. – Marketing messaging, doing things the way they’ve always been done, etc.)

Good Dependent Thinking involves building off of the ideas and innovations of others. (i.e. – research, learning, patent system, etc.)

Independent Thinking is critically assessing the ideas in your own head and those from other people.

Complete and perfect Independent Thought is impossible and completely impractical.

To think independently, challenge each thought as it enters your mind as often as is feasible, especially with new ideas.

Develop a solid foundation of belief system to measure the world by.

Evaluate new ideas that you come across by comparing them to your belief system.

Evaluate your belief system through logic and constantly be testing it yourself.
