Why Love & Business?

Why do I believe that love is such a powerful force for business? Why a whole podcast dedicated to this idea? I have a brilliant and logical friend who asked me this question. Why a whole podcast around love and business? There are several very important reasons.

First, LOVE.

For most of history, intelligence was relegated to the brain. After doing over half a century’s research on the matter, there have been some learning on the connection they share.

In the 1960’s John & Beatrice Lacey discovered that the heart communicates with the brain in ways that have a big affect on our lives. In 1991 the HeartMath Institute was created by neurocardiologist Dr J Andrew Armour who coined the term heartbrain. He said that the heart possesses its own complex and intrinsic nervous system that is a brain.

1.  Your heart has its own intelligence – “Heart intelligence is the flow of awareness, understanding and intuition that comes when your heart and brain are in coherence.” HeartMath Institute

It is seen now that:

The heart sends us emotional and intuitive signals to help govern our lives. The heart directs and aligns many systems in the body so that they can function in harmony with one another. The heart is in constant communication with the brain. The heart’s intrinsic brain and nervous system relay information back to the brain in the cranium, creating a two-way communication system between heart and brain. The heart makes many of its own decisions. The heart starts beating in the unborn fetus before the brain has been formed, a process scientists call autorhythmic. Humans form an emotional brain long before a rational one, and a beating heart before either. The heart has its own independent complex nervous system known as “the brain in the heart.” Your heart is a more powerful force of creation than your brain.

The field of energy around the heart is greater than that output by the brain. Gerhard Baule and Richard McFee measured the first readings of the energy output of the heart in 1863.

“The heart is the most powerful source of electromagnetic energy in the human body, producing the largest rhythmic electromagnetic field of any of the body’s organs. The heart’s electrical field is about 60 times greater in amplitude than the electrical activity generated by the brain.”
The field of the heart can be measured as far as 3 feet from the body.

“Researchers began showing in the 1980s and ’90s that success in life depended more on an individual’s ability to effectively manage emotions than on the intellectual ability of the brain in the head,” says The HeartMath Solution, by HeartMath founder Doc Childre and his associate and longtime HeartMath spokesman Howard Martin.

Your heart has special powers that your brain does not – intuition, intention, gratitude, compassion, forgiveness and love.

The brain thinks linearly. The heart is more dynamic – not bound by linear time.

Then, BUSINESS.

“Business is the greatest platform for change.” Business has the ability to transform the world as well. Marc Benioff (Salesforce creator and CEO agrees) There is so much more power generated in a business when it’s aim is transforming something bigger than its own bottom line. People will get behind and rally around an idea of transformation – especially if its aim is to supersede the next dollar to the bottom line.
This is now a major point of differentiation for all stakeholders in a company.

“We’re quickly moving into a world where we are known in business for our values.” Marc Benioff

Business has the power to serve – its inherent job is to meet needs. Business has the power of creation.

Bring business & love together and you have the perfect harmony of masculine and feminine. Without heart and love – business becomes narcissistic.

But WITH heart, business has the ability to transform the entire world.
