We didn’t want to watch the new Mario movie or the old Mario movie, but we reeeeally wanted to tie this episode into the release of the new Mario movie and the recent reappraisal of the old Mario movie, so we decided to talk about TETRIS, the new movie about the making of everyone’s favorite “cartridge that came with the Game Boy.” We discuss the ways in which the film is successful at mixing high intrigue with shocking history and clever filmmaking. We reminisce on the many varieties of Tetris that, while fun, will never trump the original (it’s a perfect game). We countdown our favorite movies based on/inspired by/about video games.
