Osama Dorias, Senior Game Designer at WB Montreal, joins Drew Dixon to talk about his history in game design including a musing on the fluidity of the designer and artist role in gaming. Dorias also talks about the vulnerability experienced when a designer takes their pitch "upstairs" to sell the team on their idea.
The second half of the show explores Osama's early years being born in Iraq and his youth in Canada. The eldest of 8 children, Dorias is an Orthodox Muslim with Shia parents with Catholic in-laws with children learning about the traditions of their respective families. The discussion concludes with his efforts for more relatable and honest depiction of Muslim characters in gaming that go beyond the tired stereotype of the "terrorist".
