When Gina was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder—the cause of her insomnia, panic attacks, and night teeth-grinding—she decided not to tell her Latino parents. Dr. Ana Ribas, an anxiety specialist, shares strategies for discussing our mental health and treatment options with our parents.

Dr Ana Ribas is a licensed clinical psychologist that maintains a private practice in the Los Angeles area and provides online therapy in California. Dr Ribas is currently the Assistant Clinical Director of the Adult OCD Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program at the UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, as well as a clinical supervisor and therapist in the program. She provides individual and group therapy, training and supervision in the delivery of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). For 8 years, Dr Ribas served as a staff psychologist at the UCLA Counseling and Psychological services as a clinical supervisor, therapist, outreach coordinator, and as leader of the International Students Wellness Committee, where she was distinguished with a staff achievement award. Dr Ribas completed her predoctoral APA Accredited internship at Didi Hirsh Community Mental Health Center in Los Angeles. Her postdoctoral fellowship was at the USC department of Psychology, as a clinical research coordinator, while also serving as a clinical supervisor at the USC Psychology Services Center. After getting her license in CA, she was invited by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) to serve as a question writer for the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP).
