On this episode of the Hospitality Leaders podcast, I’m joined by Yancy Perez, Regional Operations Manager at Border Grill, to hear his thoughts about return on investment in terms of his staff.

Coming out of the pandemic, many hospitality industry leaders are looking for ways to cut costs in order to bounce back from a tumultuous couple of years. It may be tempting to pull back on staffing and training but Yancy believes these areas are exactly where organizations need to invest the most.

To Yancy, a good team is like a long-term investment. It may seem expensive in the short term to have a selective hiring program and extensive training for new team members, but the returns on that investment years down the road can transform a business.

An organization with a thorough onboarding program and a willingness to invest in its team can build a culture of hard work and dedication to the company that pays off in outstanding ways. From the head chef to the dishwasher, every employee has a key role to play; companies that teach their staff the value of their position create a culture of pride that translates into a fantastic guest experience.
